High School Level Painting Class This class for high-schoolers will begin with charcoal drawing techniques as an intensive means to transition to the mind set needed for painting. We will then begin painting with oils, and as the year progresses students will be introduced to a variety of the techniques used with this most versatile of art mediums. Along the way students will be taught to work from three dimensional sources, learning how to translate these to two dimensional compositions. They will learn to use the process of drawing studies as preparation for more involved works of art in oil. And of course, they will be encouraged to pursue their own vision. As opportunity and interest develop students will be introduced to, and encouraged in, the use of additional mediums. Because of a variety of supplemental experiences with other mediums, students will be able to use their oil paints with greater individuality. These sessions will provide excellent catalyst for assembling a college entrance portfolio, for those students interested in going on to an art school.
